Two men were tragically killed in separate incidents in Dallas over the weekend. The first shooting occurred on Saturday afternoon in the 2600 block of Kenesaw Drive. Authorities responded to reports of a 53-year-old man, identified as Santos Chavez, who had sustained a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of Dallas Fire and Rescue, Chavez succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Police have not released any information regarding the events leading up to the shooting, but have confirmed that an investigation is underway. They intend to refer the case to a grand jury for further review.

Later that same day, another shooting took place on southbound North Stemmons Freeway (Interstate 35E), resulting in the death of one man and leaving a woman in critical condition. Police arrived at the scene around 8:25 p.m. in response to a report of a man who had been shot inside a stalled vehicle on the left lane of traffic. Additionally, a woman was found shot on the shoulder of the freeway. Both victims were transported to a hospital, where the man sadly passed away. The woman remains in critical condition. Authorities have yet to release the identity of the deceased man until his next-of-kin have been notified by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Detective Joshua Romero is leading the investigation into the second shooting and has appealed to the public for any information that may aid in solving the case. Anyone with relevant details is urged to contact Detective Romero at 214-671-4226 or via email at joshua.romero@dallaspolice.gov. The investigation is ongoing as police work to piece together the events surrounding this tragic incident.

These two separate and apparently unrelated shootings in Dallas have left the community shocked and saddened. The loss of two lives underscores the need for continued efforts to address gun violence in the city. As authorities diligently work to gather evidence and seek justice for these victims, the hope is that anyone with information will come forward to assist in the investigation.
