Thousands of Residents Still Without Power in Jackson County After Severe Storm
Jackson County, MI – More than 6,000 residents in Jackson County remain without power on Monday morning, days after an intense storm swept through the area last Thursday night. The severe thunderstorm caused widespread power outages across the state, affecting over 100,000 customers. According to Consumers Energy, 6,503 customers in Jackson County are still without power as of 9 a.m. on Monday, August 28.
Despite the significant number of residents still in the dark, work crews have made considerable progress in restoring power to the majority of the county since the storm struck on August 25. Initially, power was disrupted for 29,867 customers, which accounted for 38% of the county. Our crews worked tirelessly overnight to make significant progress restoring power, and we appreciate our customers’ patience as we work to clean up the mess caused by high winds and tornadoes, said Scott McIntosh, an Officer in Charge for the storm at Consumers Energy. McIntosh confirmed that restoring power remains their top priority, and the lineworkers will continue to work around-the-clock shifts until every community is fully restored.
The storm hit the northern and eastern parts of the county the hardest, with Grass Lake and Munith bearing significant power losses. During the storm, 84% of Grass Lake and 94% of Munith lost power. As of Monday, 31% of Munith and 34% of Grass Lake are still without electricity.
Restoration times vary for different areas, with some expecting power to be restored by Monday afternoon and others by late evening. The storm brought wind gusts of up to 75 mph, further complicating the restoration efforts.
