MBTA Red Line to Undergo 16-Day Closure in Effort to Tackle Chronic Delays
Boston commuters who rely on the MBTA Red Line have become well-acquainted with one persistent reality: delays. Furthermore, it appears that ridership has sharply declined on the Red Line since before the pandemic. In January 2020, there were approximately 183,000 daily riders on average. However, by last week, that number had plummeted to a mere 83,000. This significant drop in ridership has resulted in a decline in fare revenue, subsequently affecting the MBTA’s financial standing.
