Atlanta Engages Third Party to Verify Petition for Vote on Public Safety Training Center

Atlanta, Georgia: In a bid to ensure transparency and accuracy, the city of Atlanta has enlisted the help of a third party to validate a petition seeking to include the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center on the ballot for a public vote. As of now, the petition has not been officially filed but will be thoroughly reviewed once received.

The city officials have set a target of collecting 58,232 signatures, which accounts for 15 percent of the registered voters. Forest Webb, a representative of the city, stated that the team would meticulously scrutinize each document, with individuals assigned to inspect every line and address any concerns that may arise.

A third-party team of experts, including Rich Bartolomei and Chris Sauter, renowned for their experience in reviewing petitions, will collaborate with Webb to ensure accuracy and precision in the verification process. Bartolomei, who has analyzed half a million petition lines across various local, state, and federal campaigns, brings invaluable expertise to the table.

Britney Whaley, from the Working Families Party involved in collecting the signatures, emphasized their commitment to validating each signature internally before submission. Whaley disclosed that they had amassed an impressive 104,000 signatures during their summer campaign, underscoring their enthusiasm and dedication.

Despite initial plans to submit the petition on Monday, the organizers have decided to extend the deadline to September 22, allowing ample time for a comprehensive review. Whaley added that they had lingering questions and desired more involvement and transparency in the overall process, expressing a desire for their representatives to serve as observers during the verification phase.

Once the verification process concludes, the specially appointed group will present their findings to the Atlanta City Council and the mayor. This presentation will include all the evidence gathered during the meticulous review, offering a comprehensive understanding of the petition’s validity.

By involving a third party and employing meticulous scrutiny, Atlanta aims to uphold fairness and accuracy, ensuring that the voice of its citizens is truly heard. The transparency showcased during this process serves as a testament to the city’s commitment to its democratic principles.
