Donald Trump’s Former Attorney Released on Bond in Election Fraud Case
Jenna Ellis, who previously served as attorney for Donald Trump and was indicted in an election fraud case, has been released on a $100,000 bond. The decision was made by a Fulton County Superior Court judge on August 22, just days after Ellis launched a crowdfunding campaign on GiveSendGo to raise funds for her legal defense. The campaign has already garnered more than $110,000 within a week.
Ellis took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the link to her crowdfunding campaign. She quoted attorney Mike Melito, who is supposedly representing her in the case, and stated that she is being targeted by the government and that they are attempting to criminalize the practice of law. Her post read, Jenna Ellis, former senior legal adviser and personal counsel to President Trump is being targeted and the government is trying to criminalize the practice of law. Help her fight back and stand for the truth!
The indictment against Ellis accuses her of being part of a group led by Trump that organized a false slate of Electoral College votes in Georgia, despite knowing that Trump had lost the state by more than 11,000 votes. The indictment includes a total of 18 defendants, including Trump himself. This development seems to have led to a rift between Ellis and Trump, as she publicly criticized his political action committee (PAC), MAGA Inc., for not funding her defense in the case.
Furthermore, Ellis has recently emerged as a staunch supporter of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the Republican presidential primary. It appears that her association with Trump has weakened following her indictment.
The charges against Trump and his associates, including Ellis, stem from their efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia. The indictment accuses the group of engaging in various criminal activities, such as false statements, forgery, impersonating a public officer, and perjury, among others.
It is worth noting that Ellis had faced censure by Colorado legal officials earlier this year for spreading false statements about the 2020 presidential election. In March, she admitted to making misrepresentations on television and Twitter during Trump’s unsuccessful attempt to retain power after losing the election to Joe Biden.
As the legal proceedings continue, Ellis’s release on bond provides her with an opportunity to mount a defense against the charges she faces. The case has garnered attention due to her previous association with Trump and her role in his election campaign. The outcome of this high-profile trial will undoubtedly be closely watched by many, as it could have significant implications for election integrity and the consequences of efforts to overturn election results.
