The Ottawa Police Service Welcomes 21 New Officers
The Ottawa Police Service proudly celebrated the graduation of 21 new officers on Thursday. These recruits completed their training, which began in July 2023, and were honored during a special badge ceremony. The city’s police service emphasized the diverse backgrounds and wealth of experience that these new members bring to the force.

Additionally, there is a military combat engineer turned advanced care paramedic, individuals from federal, provincial, and municipal public services, as well as those with experience in complex community care, crisis outreach, and support for the vulnerable sector.
The Ottawa police acknowledged that the new officers have also demonstrated a commitment to community service, volunteering with organizations that provide support to the community. The news release further revealed that among the 21 recruits, 14 are men and 7 are women. Many of them possess advanced education and degrees in various fields including criminology, communications, police foundations, child and youth services, and social sciences.
It’s worth noting that while some of the new officers were raised in Ottawa, others hail from different parts of Canada such as St. Catherines, Kingston, Montreal, Gatineau, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and Winnipeg. Moreover, several recruits have lived experience in countries like Nigeria, Congo, El Salvador, Peru, and China, adding an international dimension to the force.
The cultural diversity of the new officers is also striking. They collectively speak thirteen languages in addition to English and French. These languages include Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Somali, Arabic, Haitian Creole, Tajik, Lingala, Swahili, Yoruba, Farsi, Luri, and Dari, which will undoubtedly prove valuable in serving Ottawa’s multicultural community.
