A new Georgia State Patrol post worth $1.3 million has been announced, aiming to enhance security in Buckhead, Atlanta, round the clock. Having 12 GSP troopers assigned to it, with space for up to 30 troops, the post is set to be stationed at the Governor’s Mansion. The funding for this project was allocated in the state budget, specifically in the Fiscal Year 2024, with the intention of boosting safety and accessibility for the Buckhead community and nearby areas. The post, a 1,750 square foot facility complete with a garage bay adjacent to the Mansion, will be constructed while preserving the historical integrity of the Mansion.
According to Governor Brian Kemp, the troopers will be actively involved in responding to criminal activities in Buckhead. Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns also expressed his belief that the post will improve response times for incidents within and around Atlanta. Governor Kemp further stated that the patrol post will serve as a new base for State Troopers to directly combat crime, expressing his optimism about its positive impact on the Buckhead community. Once completed, the post will be accessible via Woodhaven Road off West Paces Ferry Road.
Currently, the Governor’s Mansion already has a limited GSP presence for security purposes. However, with the new post, the authorities are aiming to bolster security measures in the area and ensure the safety of residents and visitors alike.
