The Mizoram People’s Movement (ZPM) is set to form the government with a majority in the Mizoram Assembly polls, winning 26 seats out of the required 40-seat assembly. The ZPM secured victory in 25 seats and is leading in two seats, according to the Election Commission of India. The incumbent Mizo National Front (MNF) has marked victory in seven seats and is leading in three seats. However, a blow came for the ruling MNF as the Chief Minister Zoramthanga lost the Aizawl East-I seat to ZPM’s Lalthansanga by 2,101 votes. The BJP, a constituent of the ruling NDA, said the outcome was unexpected. The BJP managed to sweep Siaha district with two wins, its best-ever performance in Mizoram. The elections in Mizoram took place on November 7, with major contenders being the MNF, ZPM, Congress, and BJP.
