Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Philip Zinckernagel is reportedly attracting interest from Turkish side Trabzonspor. Zinckernagel was a key member of Steve Cooper’s side that earned promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs in the 2021/22 season. He then returned to parent club Watford before completing a permanent move to Olympiacos, owned by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis. However, Zinckernagel’s time in Greece didn’t go as he would have hoped, and went to Standard Liege on loan in Belgium just two months later.

During his time in Belgium, Zinckernagel proved to be an impressive midfielder, scoring nine goals and providing two assists in 24 appearances in the Juliper Pro League, along with one more goal in the league’s Europe play-offs. He is set to return to Olympiacos ahead of the new season, but Trabzonspor has reportedly made a move to sign him permanently, having already made a loan offer. The Turkish club has reportedly set aside a maximum budget of €1.5 million to complete the deal and is keen to sign the player as soon as possible.

Zinckernagel has already had talks with Olympiacos over his future, as he is said to be keen on a move back to Belgium. However, there is still a possibility that the midfielder could stay and play a part for his parent club in the upcoming season. This news will be welcomed by Nottingham Forest fans, who have fond memories of the midfielder’s role in their promotion-winning campaign.

Zinckernagel was a standout performer for Forest during his time at the club, and his impressive form earned him a move to Watford. Despite his struggles in Greece, his time in Belgium showed that he still has plenty to offer, and it is no surprise that Trabzonspor is interested in signing him. It remains to be seen whether Olympiacos will agree to a permanent transfer, as they may prefer to keep hold of the midfielder.

This news comes as Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall is reportedly in talks with Scottish side Rangers over a potential transfer. It remains to be seen whether this transfer will go ahead, but Forest fans will be hoping that the club can hold onto their key players ahead of the new season.
