Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced that power subscribers in the state will be given 100 units of free electricity per month. The scheme applies to all domestic or commercial users and will be accompanied by a waiver of permanent fees, fuel surcharges and other charges for anyone using up to 200 units of electricity. Those consuming less than 100 units per month will not receive a bill for their power at all. The move comes ahead of this year’s Assembly election and is seen as being part of Congress’ strategy to focus on pro-people policies and freebies.
