Zamfara Governor Calls Urgent Security Meeting Following Student Abduction

The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has taken swift action in response to the recent abduction of students from the Federal University Gusau. Governor Lawal has summoned an emergency security meeting to address the issue and find immediate solutions to ensure the safe release of all those taken.

The alarming incident occurred in Sabo Gida village, located in the Bungudu Local Government Area, where the students were kidnapped from their off-campus residence. This incident has further highlighted the pressing issue of insecurity in the state, an issue that the state administration is determined to resolve.

In a statement released on Friday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, it was emphasized that the primary objective of the Emergency Security Council meeting is to secure the release of the abducted individuals. Additionally, the meeting aims to devise a long-term plan to tackle the escalating security challenges that have become a cause for concern in the state.

To ensure a comprehensive response, Governor Lawal has directed the Deputy Governor, Mani Mallam Mummuni, to offer full support to the security agencies involved in restoring peace and normalcy to the affected areas. The Deputy Governor will work closely with the security chiefs to enhance surveillance and intensify security operations in volatile regions.

During the security meeting, the Deputy Governor received assurances from the security chiefs regarding their unwavering commitment to reestablishing peace in Zamfara State. Furthermore, they confirmed that six kidnap victims had already been successfully rescued, thanks to the efforts of the troops.

In their continued efforts to neutralize the kidnappers, security forces have also eliminated a significant number of them and are actively pursuing the remaining individuals involved in these criminal acts. The presence of troops in volatile areas will be increased to enhance surveillance and provide a swift response to any emerging security threats.

The Governor’s office stressed the importance of restoring peace and security across the state, ensuring the safety of its residents, and safeguarding the educational institutions that are vital for the development and progress of Zamfara State.

As the Emergency Security Council meeting progresses, it is expected that effective strategies will be formulated to address the security challenges and ultimately bring about lasting peace to Zamfara State. The government remains committed to the safe rescue of all the abducted students and the overall security of its citizens.
