The newly appointed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Zaka Ashraf, has strongly rejected the hybrid model suggested by his predecessor, Najam Sethi, for the upcoming Asia Cup. Ashraf has voiced concerns that the model does not serve Pakistan’s best interests and highlighted the importance of hosting the entire event in the country as its rightful position as the host. He believes that holding the main matches outside of Pakistan is unfair and not in the country’s best interests. Ashraf has pledged to review all available information regarding the Asia Cup and make a decision that serves the country’s interests, as he takes on his new role. The Asia Cup is scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 17 and Ashraf’s stance adds an interesting dynamic to the tournament’s planning and organization. Earlier this year, the PCB had proposed a hybrid model for the Asia Cup as a solution to the crisis that arose after India refused to travel to Pakistan for the tournament. However, Ashraf’s rejection of the hybrid model suggests a change in direction for the PCB under his leadership.
