Delhi Police’s Special Cell has dismantled an inter-state gang of Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) cartels who were inspired by a recently premiered web series called ‘Farzi’. Reports confirm that the gang was printing and circulating high-quality FICN in the denomination of Rs 2000 for a considerable period, which was cracked down by the police team. They have arrested two key members of the cartel and seized FICN in the amount of Rs 5.50 lakh. Apart from fake Indian currency, the police have also confiscated raw materials and tools used for printing the currency.

The accused, Tajeem and Irshad, belong to Kairana, Uttar Pradesh and were seeking to take advantage of the phasing out of Rs 2000 currency notes. Both were arrested by the police, who impounded the mobile phones and SIM cards used by the gang for their activities.

A team of Special Cell lead by Inspector Anuj Nautiyal and Inspector Nagender Singh under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rajiv Ranjan Singh busted the racket on June 21. The team, after acquiring specific information, laid a trap at Alipur, Delhi, and apprehended accused Tajeem with a consignment of high-quality FICN equivalent to Rs. 2.50 lakh.

Upon interrogation, Tajeem revealed information leading to Irshad’s arrest. During the mansion search, FICN amounting to Rs 3 lakh was recovered. Irshad admitted to recognizing the demand for FICN and ventured it as a business opportunity with a high profit margin. Thus, he started printing FICN in his shop with his associates’ help and circulated the notes using Tajeem’s liaisons who was previously a dyer.

The Delhi Police has identified the arrested accused as key members of the FICN racket, which was operational for a prolonged time. By following the given guidelines, this article reports the police’s successful crackdown on the FICN cartel through an undercover operation and puts forward the details of the FICN printing, distribution, and the accused’s actions.
