York Police Search for Suspects in Attempted Armed Carjacking, Linked to Previous Incident
York police are on the hunt for suspects involved in an attempted armed carjacking in Markham, Ont., and believe these same individuals may be connected to a recent armed carjacking incident. The police are urging residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately.
The first incident occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday at the intersection of Steeles Avenue East and Victoria Park Avenue. The victim, driving a black Mercedes SUV, was rear-ended by a black BMW while waiting at a red light. Both drivers pulled into a nearby transit loop to assess the damage, but things took a dangerous turn.
As the victim stepped out of his vehicle, a passenger from the suspect’s car approached him, brandishing a knife. This individual demanded the victim’s cellphone and car keys. Thankfully, the victim managed to escape and called the police as the suspects fled the scene in their vehicle.
Despite the terrifying encounter, the victim escaped uninjured, and the suspects did not succeed in stealing the car. The suspect who confronted the victim is described as a white male in his early twenties, approximately five-foot-eight to five-foot-ten, with a skinny build and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie.
Police believe that there may be up to three suspects involved in these incidents and suspect they may be connected to a carjacking that took place on August 17 in the area of Rinas Avenue and Beaverbrae Drive in Markham, Ont. In that incident, the victim’s Mercedes C-Class sedan was rear-ended at a stop sign, and a passenger approached with a knife, demanding the keys before making off with the vehicle.
