AIIMS Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh organised a yoga session for cancer patients on Tuesday to shed light on the therapeutic benefits of yoga in promoting physical and mental well-being among cancer patients. The event witnessed active participation of around 35 cancer patients and their caregivers who were guided through various practices, including breathing exercises, pranayama techniques, relaxation practices, and meditation. AIIMS director Dr Ajai Singh emphasized the crucial role of yoga therapy in accelerating the recovery process alongside conventional treatments. He also encouraged all individuals to incorporate yoga into their daily routines and inspire their family and friends to do the same.
Dr Singh stressed the importance of spreading awareness about the positive impact of yoga on individuals and their families. He urged not only cancer patients but also their family members to embrace the practice of yoga. Regular yoga sessions for cancer patients can help them recover faster and foster a healthier lifestyle. As a gesture of their commitment, participants were served with a special breakfast comprising of Ragi idli. This aimed to promote the inclusion of millets in their daily diet and improve their overall health.
This event was organised as part of the celebrations for the 9th International Day of Yoga 2023 at AIIMS Bhopal. The Department of AYUSH has promised to organise such events regularly to create awareness and encourage the integration of yoga into people’s lives and their families. The transformative power of yoga in enhancing the well-being of cancer patients has been widely accepted. It is an inexpensive and time-efficient complementary therapy that can assist cancer patients physically, emotionally, and mentally.
