Yale Women’s Basketball Loses to Boston University in Close Match

In a closely contested match, the Yale women’s basketball team suffered a defeat against Boston University. The Bulldogs played their third game of the season against the Terriers, aiming for their first win after two previous losses. However, despite their efforts, Yale fell short by seven points.

The game took place at Case Gymnasium in Boston, as part of a series of away games for the Bulldogs. Having come off a tough loss against Saint Joseph’s in their previous match, Yale was determined to secure a victory against Boston University.

From the beginning, both teams exhibited strong performances. The Terriers started with a foul that earned them two free throws, but the Bulldogs quickly responded with baskets from Mackenzie Egger and Nyla McGill to stay within reach of Boston. Captain Jenna Clark then hit a crucial three-pointer to tie the game at 12-12 by the end of the first period.

In the second quarter, Boston University started pulling away, but Yale repeatedly fought back. Kiley Capstraw’s free throws and a layup by Grace Thybulle, who had impressed in the previous game against Saint Joseph’s, exposed the Terriers’ defensive weaknesses. The Bulldogs had their most successful period, scoring thirteen points overall. However, Boston still held a five-point lead at halftime, with the score at 30-25.

After the break, Boston extended their lead to ten points. Although both teams displayed impressive shooting throughout the third quarter, the Terriers outscored the Bulldogs by two points, ending the period with a score of 43-36 in favor of Boston.

Yale staged a spirited comeback in the fourth quarter. Capstraw quickly scored twice within 40 seconds, followed by another layup from Clark, reducing Boston’s lead to just three points at 45-42. This rally brought the Bulldogs as close as they would come to overtaking the Terriers. Christen McCann and McGill added more points to Yale’s tally, but Boston managed to break away in the final minutes, securing a 60-53 victory over the Blue and White.

Both teams had standout performances from their players. Caitlin Weimar of Boston University had an exceptional game, scoring a total of 22 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Alex Giannaros contributed twelve points for the Terriers. On the Yale side, Brenna McDonald recorded ten rebounds, closely followed by McGill with eight, which gave the Bulldogs a significant advantage of 42-28 in rebounding. Furthermore, first-year player Lucy Lynn made her debut as a substitute during the second quarter. Capstraw led the team in scoring with 14 points, while Clark closely followed with 12 points, including two three-pointers.

Looking ahead, the Bulldogs will face the undefeated Lehigh Mountain Hawks in their next game at Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Following that, they will travel to California for matches against the University of the Pacific and the University of San Francisco before returning home on November 28th to take on Marist.

Although the Yale women’s basketball team faced another setback with their loss to Boston University, the players showed determination and fought hard throughout the game. With more games ahead, the Bulldogs remain determined to secure their first victory of the season and continue to grow as a team.
