XLRI and CMC Vellore Collaborate to Transform Healthcare Education and Research
Leading Indian institutions, XLRI and Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore, have joined forces to revolutionize healthcare education and research. The partnership aims to develop innovative management programs and collaborative research initiatives to meet the future needs of healthcare professionals.
XLRI, known as India’s first Business School, was founded in 1949 by Jesuit Fr. Quinn Enright, SJ, while CMC Vellore, established in 1900 by Dr. Ida Sophia Scudder, is renowned for its healthcare programs. Both institutions have a rich legacy of providing high-quality education and producing well-rounded professionals.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on August 23, 2023, at CMC Vellore, marking a significant milestone in this collaboration. The signing ceremony was attended by key representatives from both institutions, including Fr. K.S. Casimir and Fr. S. George from XLRI, and Dr. Vikram Mathews and Dr. Solomon Sathishkumar from CMC Vellore.
Fr. Casimir expressed his excitement about the partnership, highlighting the importance of creating affordable and high-quality healthcare services in India. He emphasized the need for professionals trained in cutting-edge management practices to address the growing demands of the healthcare sector.
Fr. George Sebastian, in his address, emphasized the value of this partnership in contributing to the greater good of the nation. He also expressed his institution’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by providing highly skilled and ethical healthcare professionals.
Dr. Vikram Mathews highlighted the need for enhanced administrative skills in managing healthcare organizations. This collaboration is expected to address the training requirements of healthcare organizations, especially those in the mission network.
Dr. Solomon Sathishkumar emphasized the importance of good management to drive the growth and development of healthcare institutions. He mentioned that this collaboration with XLRI will introduce unique training courses featuring practical hands-on experience, aiming to improve healthcare in the country.
The partnership between XLRI and CMC Vellore aims to bridge the gap between healthcare and management education. The first academic course resulting from this collaboration is scheduled to launch in January 2024.
