Comcast has become the first Internet provider to offer a product designed to maintain connectivity during power outages caused by storms or local outages. The company has launched Storm-Ready WiFi, a device equipped with cellular back-up and a four-hour rechargeable battery. This ensures uninterrupted internet connectivity for customers in the event of a power outage, with the device automatically transitioning to cellular back-up. Storm-Ready WiFi also doubles as a WiFi extender, delivering a strong signal to hard-to-reach corners of the home.

The device works with Xfinity gateways to create a wall-to-wall mesh network that extends coverage throughout customers’ homes. It is also WiFi 6 capable, providing faster speeds, lower latency, and increased bandwidth to support multiple connected devices.

Emily Waldorf, Senior Vice President of Consumer Internet Services at Comcast Cable, explained that Storm-Ready WiFi was developed to address the growing dependence on WiFi connectivity. She stated, With so much of our daily lives dependent on WiFi connectivity, we knew our customers needed a product that could help keep them connected no matter what life throws at them – even during a storm.

Storm-Ready WiFi operates on the Xfinity 10G Network, which delivers increased speed, capacity, reliability, and lower latency. In addition to providing back-up connectivity, the device automatically transitions to free unlimited cellular data during outages. Its rechargeable battery ensures reliable service for up to four hours.

Comcast’s commitment to sustainability is also reflected in Storm-Ready WiFi as it is the company’s first device designed using recycled materials, with the casing made from 65% post-consumer recycled plastic.

Customers can purchase Storm-Ready WiFi for $7 per month for 36 months. The device is available for purchase at Xfinity Stores and on the Xfinity website.

Comcast’s launch of Storm-Ready WiFi showcases its dedication to providing reliable and uninterrupted internet connectivity to its customers, even in challenging circumstances. By combining cellular back-up, WiFi extension capabilities, and sustainability features, Storm-Ready WiFi offers customers peace of mind and ensures they can stay connected during power outages caused by storms or local outages.
