Wycombe Wanderers have confirmed the departure of their head of sports science, David Wates, who has joined Queens Park Rangers led by former Chairboys boss Gareth Ainsworth. Wates’s exit has paved the way for the arrival of Michael Amoah as the new lead physical performance coach at Wycombe.
Amoah has previously worked with the club’s assistant manager, Richard Thomas, at both Leyton Orient and Watford. He has also worked with Wycombe’s boss, Matt Bloomfield, at Colchester United.
The club has high hopes for Amoah’s arrival, given his experience with Thomas and Bloomfield, and his track record in physical performance coaching.
The news will undoubtedly disappoint Wycombe fans who valued the contribution made by Wates. However, the club is no stranger to restructuring their coaching staff and has welcomed new coaches before.
The arrival of Amoah is a part of that ongoing process, and the club is confident in his ability to take the team to the next level.
With the 2023/24 fixtures revealed, Wycombe is gearing up for a season opener against Exeter City. The club has a challenging season ahead and is looking forward to starting the new campaign under the guidance of Amoah.
Despite the departure of Wates, Wycombe remains determined to make an impact on the football world and bring home some well-deserved silverware.
