Women’s Health Startup Daye launches the world’s first virtual Period Pain Clinic, aiming to help women and assigned female at birth (AFAB) individuals identify and manage the root cause of their period pain. Daye believes that menstrual pain is a significant health concern that requires attention and faster access to effective medical interventions.
According to research from University College London (UCL), nine out of ten women have experienced period pain, which can be as painful as a heart attack. Despite the prevalence and severity of this issue, many women suffer in silence, with 57% stating that period pains have impacted their ability to work.
To address these challenges, Daye has collaborated with NHS GPs, gynaecologists, and chronic pelvic pain specialists to develop a groundbreaking service called the Period Pain Clinic (PPC). Through this clinic, individuals can receive a thorough assessment of their symptoms and access private consultations with a range of specialists, including sexual health nurses, gynaecologists, pelvic pain and fertility specialists, nutritionists, dermatologists, breathwork coaches, acupuncturists, and more.
The healthcare professionals at the PPC can provide faster diagnosis of conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), fibroids, and other conditions associated with chronic pelvic pain. They can also address other connected symptoms such as infertility, hair loss, obesity, and severe acne.
In addition to diagnosis and treatment, Daye’s Period Pain Clinic also recommends symptom management tools for which there is clinical evidence. These interventions could include prescribed CBD tampons, TENS machines, pelvic floor trainers, acupuncture, hormonal contraception, and more. To make these products more accessible, Daye has partnered with pain management businesses to offer discounts on the recommended products.
Founder of Daye, Valentina Milanova, shares her vision for the clinic, saying, Changing the way we diagnose and treat period pain is very important as currently, it can take 7-10 years for patients to obtain answers and treatments. Frustratingly, women get diagnosed later than men in over 700 diseases. This launch marks an important milestone in advancing the way we diagnose and treat gynaecological health conditions and a significant step towards not only redefining the narrative surrounding periods but also empowering millions of women and AFAB individuals to better understand, manage, and challenge the status quo surrounding their monthly pain.
Often, women and AFAB individuals endure period pain for years without seeking a cause, accepting it as a normal part of their monthly cycle. However, period pain can be a symptom of serious conditions such as endometriosis and PCOS, which can lead to further complications if left untreated. Through the virtual platform of the Period Pain Clinic, patients will receive continuous support, education, and access to resources, fostering a sense of community and empowerment.
Daye aims to bridge the gender gap in medical research and innovation and raise the bar in the provision of gynaecological care through this new service. By offering convenient, accessible, and personalized care, the Period Pain Clinic strives to improve the quality of life for individuals dealing with chronic gynaecological conditions.
