In cricket news, Worcestershire’s wicketkeeper-batman, Ben Cox, has climbed to the top three of the all-time T20 list. In his testimonial year, Cox moved ahead of John Simpson of Middlesex to third place after catching Daryl Mitchell in the victory against Lancashire Lightning on Tuesday evening.
The 31-year-old Cox is the wicket-keeper with the most dismissals in T20 cricket still playing, with James Foster of Essex and Phil Mustard of Durham and Gloucestershire who both retired. Cox needed only 141 games to reach 98 dismissals and could reach the 100-club ahead of games with Notts Outlaws and the Birmingham Bears.
A former student of Bromsgrove School, Cox debuted in the competition in 2010, with over a third of his 33 victims being stumpings. In the summer of 2019, he passed Mark Wallace of Glamorgan, Steve Davies of Worcestershire, Surrey, and Somerset, Chris Read of Nottinghamshire, and Tim Ambrose of Sussex and Birmingham.
Cox had an excellent season in 2018, his best in terms of dismissals, when he helped the Rapids win the title. He received the man of the match awards in both the semi-final and final.
James Cameron dismissed Derbyshire’s Gregory Smith to earn Cox his first T20 dismissal in an eight-wicket win at New Road.
