The Women of Honour group, representing victims of Defence Forces abuse, has been invited to meet with Irish Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, to discuss the government’s plans for the inquiry. However, they have expressed their opposition to the investigation, stating that the terms of reference are too narrow and influenced by the Department of Defence, compromising its impartiality. In an email to other victims of abuse, Taoiseach Micheál Martin acknowledged the input and feedback received on the nature of the inquiry and the terms of reference. While some changes have been made, he stated that the overall substance of the terms of reference remains unchanged. Martin expressed confidence in the Attorney General’s assurance that the majority of issues raised will be adequately addressed within the established parameters. He now intends to present his proposals to the Cabinet and seek their approval to proceed with the statutory inquiry.
