Upon referral from Varanasi to Medanta Lucknow, the team conducted a delivery and then performed heart surgery, which allowed blood to flow properly to the lungs. The woman was discharged from the hospital in good health, and her twin babies were also found to be healthy without the need for a ventilator.
According to Gaurang Mazumdar, the head of the cardiothoracic vascular surgery department, the woman’s obstructive heart condition was severe, and it required a multi-specialty team effort. The family was also counseled regarding the risk and the procedure being adopted. The head of the neonatology department, Akash Pandita, stated that the babies, weighing 1,200 and 1,300 grams respectively, experienced breathing problems initially, but these issues were promptly resolved without ventilation. The mother, who was unable to breastfeed her twins, was able to view them for the first time via a video call.
