A woman in Belfast has been hospitalized after being struck by a firework that was allegedly aimed at police officers. The incident occurred on Monday night when officers from the South Belfast Local Policing Team were on patrol in Belfast City Centre. A firework was thrown at them, narrowly missing the officers but hitting a woman in her 30s who was in the vicinity. The woman suffered burns and swelling to her face and required medical treatment at a hospital.
Police at the scene provided first aid to the injured woman before she received further medical attention. Thanks to the swift action of the local police, one person has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault on police, possession of fireworks without a license, and possessing an offensive weapon in public. The investigation is ongoing.
Superintendent Finola Dornan expressed her concern over the incident, stressing the dangers of misusing fireworks. She also condemned assaults on police officers and emphasized the importance of staying safe during Halloween celebrations. Police patrols will be deployed to deter anti-social behavior and ensure the safety of communities.
