A woman and her family in Bihar’s Begusarai allegedly killed her husband after he objected to her obsession with creating social media reels. The victim, Maheshwar Rai, who worked as a laborer in Kolkata, was strangled by his wife, Rani, and her relatives before being hanged at his in-laws’ home. Rani has been detained, while her family members are currently on the run, according to the police.
Maheshwar, who hailed from Samastipur district, had been married to Rani for six years, and the couple had a son together. However, their relationship took a grim turn due to Rani’s fervent desire for fame and wealth through social media reels. Despite Maheshwar’s objections, Rani persisted in her pursuit.
My son always objected but Rani did not pay heed, said Ram Pravesh, Maheshwar’s father, who reported the incident to the authorities. He became suspicious when his elder son revealed that someone else had answered Maheshwar’s phone instead of him. Concerned, Ram Pravesh rushed to Rani’s house, where he made the shocking discovery.
Ram Pravesh also accused a group of young men of attempting to remove Maheshwar’s body under the pretext of taking him to the hospital. Recognizing the need for police intervention, he insisted on waiting until they arrived.
In another incident, a 52-year-old woman from Bengaluru’s Chandra Layout area allegedly stabbed and injured her 56-year-old husband. The altercation arose after he refused to take her to Singapore, his work base, and criticized her for not maintaining a clean household. The couple, married for 22 years, now faces legal consequences as the woman has been arrested by the police.
As these distressing incidents unfold, they highlight the dark consequences that can arise from the increasing popularity of social media and its impact on personal lives. The overwhelming desire for likes, views, and validation can drive individuals to extreme measures, jeopardizing their relationships and, in tragic cases, even resulting in loss of life.
Authorities are urging individuals to use social media responsibly and seek healthier methods of self-expression. It is important to maintain open communication and address conflicts within relationships constructively, rather than resorting to violence.
These incidents serve as a chilling reminder of the potential dangers that lurk behind the digital world’s glossy facade. As society continues to grapple with the implications of social media’s influence, it is vital to prioritize real-life connections and well-being over virtual validation.
The police are actively investigating both cases and will ensure that justice is served for the victims.
