Wolves Defender Christian Marques Joins Yverdon Sport, Pays Tribute to Former Full Back John Harris in Sad Passing
Wolves have announced that defender Christian Marques is leaving the club to join Yverdon Sport in Switzerland, his native country. The 20-year-old spent four years at Wolves, where he gained valuable experience on loan with Forest Green Rovers last season. Unfortunately, his loan spell was cut short due to injury after playing 13 games.
During his time at Wolves, Marques captained both the under-18 and under-21 groups. He made progress and even earned a place on the first-team bench eight times, including in the Europa League quarter-final against Sevilla. However, he never made his senior debut. Marques primarily featured in the middle of a back three and also had loan spells at Belenenses SAD in Portugal.
Meanwhile, Wolves have paid tribute to their former full back and Walsall captain John Harris, who passed away at the age of 84. Harris started his professional career with Wolves in 1958 but unfortunately suffered a broken leg early on. He only managed to make three appearances for Wolves before moving to Walsall, where he made 85 appearances.
Harris was fondly remembered by his close friend and former Wolves striker Ted Farmer. Farmer recalled their early days together, traveling to training as amateurs and working their way up through the teams at Wolves. Harris was initially an inside forward but was converted into a full back due to an abundance of talent in that position. Despite his injury setback, Harris showcased his skills at Walsall and even contributed to coaching.
Walsall Football Club also expressed their sadness over Harris’s passing. The club highlighted his four-year stint with them between 1965 and 1969 and extended condolences to his family and friends.
In other news, Wolves’ under-21s are about to kick off their EFL Trophy campaign against Notts County. The young Wolves side, managed by James Collins, has been drawn in a group alongside Notts County, Derby, and Lincoln. They have a good track record in the competition, having reached the knockout stages four times in the last five seasons.
