Congress legislator Ravi Thakur has called for the withdrawal of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) rules imposed on the tribal region of Himachal Pradesh during the previous BJP government. Thakur, who is also the President of the Tribal Department of HP Congress State Committee, expressed that the local public is against the implementation of these rules in the six panchayats of the tribal district of Lahaul Spiti.
During a press conference in Shimla, Thakur stated that the public is not satisfied with the TCP rules and has met with Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu to discuss the matter. Thakur emphasized the importance of reviewing TCP in Lahaul-Spiti and highlighted the Chief Minister’s agreement to consider the opinion of the people from the region.
Thakur pointed out that although these six panchayats of Lahaul Spiti were brought under the jurisdiction of TCP during the BJP’s reign, the necessary measurements were not carried out accurately. He urged the state government to investigate this matter further and reconsider the decision.
Thakur described the circumstances of Lahaul Spiti as peculiar, comparing it to a divorce, and argued that TCP rules are not suitable for the area. While acknowledging the locals’ support for establishing a master plan for these panchayats, he emphasized that TCP rules should not be implemented.
