US President Joe Biden has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a State dinner, despite condemnation from human rights groups for India’s alleged violations. The Biden administration accuses the Modi government of arbitrary killings, religious and ethnic minority persecution and control of the media. Representative Rashida Tlaib has announced she will boycott the dinner, stating it is unacceptable to give Modi a platform. Other politicians are using the event to protest, while more than 70 lawmakers have written to Biden calling for a discussion of the full range of issues facing the two nations. The White House confirmed Biden would discuss human rights with Modi during the visit.
