Why Are Politicians Ignoring Urgent Questions on Crime? Time for Answers, Hope Must Prevail

Tragedies resulting from rampant criminal activity have left communities in despair, with individuals desperate for answers and solutions. One such heart-wrenching incident involved Kaylon Jacob, a young man trying to make a living as a barber. Sadly, his life was abruptly taken away by violent means, leaving his loved ones grappling with grief and a profound sense of hopelessness.

The pain felt by those who have had their worlds shattered is unimaginable. It strips away any remnants of faith in the community and gives rise to a deep distrust of politicians who exploit crime for political gain. Empty words and hollow promises offer little solace to the families roused from their slumber by kidnappers who stole their cars. It provides no respite for business owners who are now advised to hire private security when conducting cash transactions at banks. And it certainly doesn’t bring comfort to farmers who tirelessly care for their crops and livestock, only to have them stolen by criminals.

This cannot be allowed to persist any longer. The population must demand answers from those responsible for our safety and well-being. It is high time politicians explain why our society has been plagued by these rampant issues. The following questions, if answered truthfully, may shed light on the underlying causes:

1. Why aren’t state-issued license plates equipped with secure technology readily available for our cars?
2. In a time when illegal guns flood our streets, why is it so difficult for law-abiding citizens to attain firearm user’s permits?
3. Why are citizens who lawfully use firearms for self-defense subjected to lengthy investigations that result in the revocation of their permits?
4. Why does the state make it arduous for individuals to access non-lethal weapons like tasers and pepper spray?
5. Why is there a blatant disregard for simple laws that safeguard against illegal taxis, squatting, praedial larceny, illegal quarrying, and threats to families?
6. Why does it take years for court cases to be heard? Shouldn’t serious crimes and threats to peaceful existence be given precedence over other offenses?
7. How is it that law enforcement officers turn a blind eye to the display of illegal tints, despite their visibility?
8. Where are the plans for structured police patrols and legislation to make video and digital technology accessible as evidence?

Now is the time for citizens to hold their elected officials accountable. Both the governing party and the opposition must expound on why crime fails to rank high on their legislative agenda. This status quo cannot persist any longer. Answers are urgently needed, and hope must prevail in our fight against crime and for a better society.
