Pakistanis are gearing up to celebrate Eidul Adha in 2023, with preparations already underway. The Climate Data Processing Centre in Karachi has predicted that the Zil Hajj moon will be sighted on June 19, meaning that the first day of Zil Hajj will fall on June 20 and Eidul Adha will be celebrated on June 29.
The Sindh government has released a list of eight authorised cattle markets in Karachi where people can purchase sacrificial animals for the festival. The decision has been taken to avoid unhygienic conditions and traffic congestion. Cattle markets will not be allowed to set up in areas that are not authorised.
Eidul Adha, which is also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of two Eid festivals celebrated by Muslims. It marks the occasion when Prophet Ibrahim was willing to sacrifice his son to Allah (SWT) and is traditionally observed by the slaughter of animals, which are then shared among family members and the poor.
The tradition of offering sacrificial animals continues for three days during Eidul Adha as people give thanks for their blessings and distribute meat to those less fortunate than themselves.
