In a recent study conducted by Customer Service Number, the search frequency of over 21,000 phrases related to forgotten passwords was analyzed. The study aimed to identify the states that struggle the most with forgetting passwords and those that excel in password management. The results are quite fascinating, shedding light on the password habits of different regions.
Topping the list of states with the highest search frequency for password recovery is West Virginia, averaging 5,702 monthly searches. This suggests that residents of West Virginia may require additional assistance in keeping their online credentials secure. Following closely behind is Vermont, with 3,665 monthly searches dedicated to password-related issues, securing the second spot. Delaware takes the third spot with 3,390 monthly searches, indicating the state’s residents’ diligence in resolving password problems promptly. Wyoming and Alaska round out the top five with monthly averages of 3,276 and 3,223 searches, respectively.
On the flip side, the study also reveals the states that excel in password management. California takes the lead, making the fewest searches for password recovery with a monthly average of 1,524 searches. The tech-savvy population of California may contribute to their ability to remember and manage their online credentials effectively. Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Ohio also demonstrate a strong memory for passwords, with monthly search averages ranging from 1,648 to 1,725.
Furthermore, the study also examined the online accounts and applications where users frequently forget their passwords. Gmail emerged as the platform where people most commonly forget their passwords, with an astonishing average of 1,194,970 global searches per month for forgot Gmail password. This highlights the widespread use of Gmail and the periodic need for password recovery. Apple’s iCloud closely follows with 1,053,070 monthly searches, reflecting its integral role in users’ lives. Instagram, Facebook, and Forgot Microsoft password also made the list of accounts/applications with high search frequencies for password recovery.
In light of these findings, Alain Vartanian, a tech expert at Customer Service Number, provided valuable tips for creating strong passwords and remembering them. These tips include using a line from a favorite book or song, drawing inspiration from surroundings, creating a pattern on the keyboard, and considering the use of a reputable password manager.
As we increasingly rely on digital platforms for various tasks, remembering passwords has become a widespread challenge.
