A TMC leader in West Bengal was arrested during a protest over the alleged murder of a Congress leader in Murshidabad district. According to reports, the TMC leader was carrying a pistol and was taken into custody by police for possessing an illegal weapon. The incident occurred during the nominations for panchayat polls on Saturday, where Congress workers held a demonstration outside the state election commission’s office in Kolkata. Congress MP, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, criticised the state administration for shielding the culprit and accused the TMC of intimidating opposition ahead of the panchayat polls. The rural polls are scheduled for 8 July and are expected to have a fierce contest between the TMC and BJP.
