Welsh Radio Presenter’s Haunting Experience in Victorian House Inspires New BBC Three Series

Welsh radio presenter Sian Eleri has opened up about her own paranormal encounter, which served as inspiration for her new BBC Three series, Paranormal: The Girl, The Ghost and the Gravestone. Eleri, who hails from Caernarfon and is 28 years old, revealed that while living in a Victorian house in London a few years ago, she felt a eerie presence on the upstairs landing.

In an interview with the WalesOnline podcast In the Spotlight, Eleri shared that within her first week of moving into the house, she sensed someone or something on the top landing near the bathroom. Though she never saw or felt anything explicitly sinister, she felt a need to show respect to the house. Every night before going to bed, she would say nos da (which means goodnight in Welsh) to the top landing before turning off the light.

Prior to filming Paranormal: The Girl, The Ghost and the Gravestone, Eleri considered herself an open-minded skeptic when it came to ghosts. However, her own experience in the Victorian house made her more receptive to the supernatural. She spent three years in the house, feeling like she was living in someone else’s home.

Paranormal: The Girl, The Ghost and the Gravestone is a four-part series that follows Sian Eleri as she investigates a supposedly ordinary farmhouse in north Wales. In the late 1990s, the farmhouse was renowned as one of the most haunted houses in Britain. The series explores the history and alleged hauntings of the location.

For Eleri, participating in Paranormal is one of the proudest moments of her career. As a BBC Radio 1 presenter who took over Phil Taggart’s show in 2020, she expressed her excitement about integrating her love for music with her passion for documentary filmmaking. Eleri’s interest in the genre was sparked by the work of Stacey Dooley and Louis Theroux, and she now has a newfound appreciation for the complexity of documentary-making.

While radio is her comfort zone, Eleri acknowledged the challenges of being in front of a camera. She praised the support she received from her team during the filming process, and she believes the outcome of the show is polished and impressive. Eleri hopes that viewers will engage with the evidence presented in Paranormal and be inspired to look for further evidence themselves.

Paranormal: The Girl, The Ghost and the Gravestone airs on BBC Three, starting from August 15. Alternatively, all episodes are available for immediate viewing on BBC iPlayer.
