Around 1,600 water customers in Westmoreland County are now facing a precautionary boil water advisory, following a water main break that resulted in a loss of positive water pressure. The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County has issued this advisory to ensure the safety of residents in Ligonier Borough, Laurel Mountain Borough, and parts of Ligonier and Fairfield townships.

Due to the detected loss of positive water pressure, there is a risk of contamination entering the water distribution system. To safeguard against this potential threat, customers in the affected areas are advised to boil their water before consuming it. It is recommended to bring the water to a rapid boil for at least one minute and allow it to cool or alternatively, to use bottled water for drinking purposes.

Furthermore, the advisory extends to various activities such as making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and food preparation. It is crucial for residents to exercise caution and follow the guidelines provided.

In response to the situation, the Ligonier Borough Municipal Garage at 301 Bunger Street has set up a water buffalo station to assist affected customers. The water buffalo is readily available for individuals to collect water from while the boil water advisory remains in effect.

The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County is working diligently to rectify the issue and restore normal water supply as soon as possible. It is recommended for residents to stay updated with the latest information from official channels regarding the advisory and the progress being made to resolve the situation.

The health and well-being of the impacted residents remain a top priority. While inconveniences may arise, it is crucial to prioritize safety and adhere to the advisory until official confirmation of the water supply returning to normal is given.

As the authorities continue their efforts to address the situation in Westmoreland County, customers are urged to remain vigilant, follow the guidelines, and stay informed. By exercising caution and taking the necessary precautions, residents can help ensure the safety of their drinking water and overall well-being during this challenging time.
