Warrington Launches ‘Peace in Mind’ Campaign for Better Support for Children, In Memory of Brianna Ghey

A joint campaign has been launched in memory of Brianna Ghey, a young girl who tragically lost her life earlier this year. Known as the ‘Peace in Mind’ campaign, it aims to improve support for children in Warrington, with Brianna’s mother, Esther, partnering with the Warrington Guardian to bring about positive change.

The main goal of the campaign is to drive better support systems for children within the town. To achieve this, funds will be raised for the Mindfulness in Schools Project, which will provide mental wellbeing training courses for teachers in Warrington. By equipping teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills, schools can create an environment that fully supports students throughout their educational journey.

Esther Ghey expressed her enthusiasm for working alongside the Warrington Guardian, stating that she jumped at the opportunity to collaborate on this important initiative. She highlighted the lack of resources and knowledge that hindered her from starting something on her own. Being able to channel her efforts with the support of the Warrington Guardian brings a unique and special opportunity to make a positive impact in her hometown.

The campaign has garnered additional support from various entities in Warrington. The Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation, in collaboration with the Warrington Wolves and Warrington Wolves Foundation, is backing the campaign and emphasizes the importance of investing in mindfulness training within primary schools. By sowing the seeds of mindfulness early on, children will develop the necessary skills to face challenges, live in the present moment, and find relaxation amidst difficulties.

Warrington Borough Council is also lending its support to the campaign. Cllr Sarah Hall, cabinet member for children’s services, believes that the Peace in Mind campaign will offer valuable guidance to teachers, enabling them to provide better support to the students of Warrington. Hall acknowledges the significant impact teaching mindfulness in schools can have, and the council is eager to support this groundbreaking initiative.

The Peace in Mind campaign has gained political endorsement as well. Andy Carter, MP for Warrington South, expresses his support and views the campaign as an opportunity for the community to come together and honor Brianna’s legacy. Similarly, Charlotte Nichols, MP for Warrington North, emphasizes the importance of improving mental health and mindfulness in schools to equip younger generations with the necessary tools for a happier and healthier life.

Education professionals are also rallying behind the campaign. Emma Mills, Brianna’s former headteacher at Birchwood High School, immediately recognized the benefits of the Mindfulness in Schools Project when approached by Esther. She emphasizes that all Warrington headteachers share her enthusiasm and highlights the lasting legacy that can be created in Brianna’s name by promoting kindness, mindfulness, and self-care.

The Peace in Mind campaign stands as a testament to the resiliency and community spirit of Warrington. By prioritizing the mental wellbeing of children, the campaign hopes to create lasting change and foster a brighter future for generations to come.
