Two individuals have been buried under the debris after a wall collapsed in the Laxman Jhula area of Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday following heavy rainfall in the region. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) immediately conducted rescue operations after receiving information from the District Control Room Rishikesh.
According to an official statement, the SDRF team reached the spot and rescued one injured individual. However, the search for the second person trapped under the debris is still ongoing. The situation was further exacerbated by heavy rains, causing severe waterlogging in the Dhalwala and Khara areas of Rishikesh.
Many houses have been submerged in water as the water level in the Rishikesh saline source rose. To aid in the rescue efforts, the SDRF team swiftly responded by rescuing about 50 people from the submerged houses using rafts and relocating them to a safe place. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami urged Char Dham pilgrims to check the weather conditions before proceeding on their journey.
Speaking exclusively to ANI, CM Dhami stated that the disaster control center had assessed the rain situation in the state. He assured that the SDRF and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel are actively engaged in carrying out rescue operations in the affected areas. The CM emphasized the importance of pilgrims being well-informed about the weather conditions before embarking on their journeys.
To ensure the safety and well-being of the affected individuals, the SDRF and NDRF continue their dedicated efforts on the ground. The Uttarakhand government remains committed to providing all necessary support and resources necessary for conducting rescue operations in the affected areas. Residents and pilgrims are advised to remain cautious and prioritize their safety in the wake of heavy rainfall and potential risks associated with such weather conditions.
