Wales captain Ken Owens has been ruled out of the forthcoming Rugby World Cup due to a back injury. The tournament will take place in France from September 8 to October 28 and Wales’ pool includes Australia, Fiji, Georgia, and Portugal. Owens has not been able to train for recent weeks due to his back injury, which is not as severe as before but still requires an operation. The 36-year-old captaincy will be taken by Dan Biggar or Adam Beard due to his absence; however, co-captaincy is also a possibility. Gatland did this in 2018 with Ellis Jenkins and Cory Hill, and the match worked out well. Dewi Lake and Jac Morgan are possible young options to be considered for the captaincy. Taulupe Faletau is also out of the squad due to injury but Gatland has called Sam Parry to feature in the training squad.
