The Voice of the People Party (VPP) in Meghalaya has officially announced that Ricky J Syngkon will be its candidate for the 2024 Lok Sabha election. The VPP Election Committee revealed Dr Syngkon’s name during a press briefing in Shillong.
Dr Syngkon, the party’s founding member and general secretary, was selected after numerous applications and meetings with the party’s president. Dr Kara Chen, Vice President of the VPP, emphasized that the party will contest the election independently and will not seek support from other parties.
When asked about the key issues the party intends to address, Dr Chen mentioned the reservation policy and state-related matters, including the Inner Line Permit (ILP). Dr Chen added that the VPP is currently in the process of screening candidates for the upcoming MDC (Member of District Council) elections next year.
While emphasizing that the ultimate decision rests with the people, Dr Chen expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the election. She also highlighted the party’s stance to contest the election independently, stating that the VPP needs the support of the people, not any political party.
The announcement of Dr Syngkon as the VPP’s Lok Sabha candidate comes as the party gears up for the forthcoming elections. The VPP contested the previous Assembly elections on its own and will do the same this time around, according to Dr Chen.
In conclusion, the VPP’s announcement of Dr Syngkon as its Lok Sabha candidate has stirred up excitement in Meghalaya’s political landscape. It remains to be seen how the VPP will fare in the next election, but the party’s decision to contest independently and address pertinent issues has certainly caught people’s attention.
