Virat Kohli Pays Tribute to Shah Rukh Khan at World Cup Match
During India’s recent World Cup match against South Africa, Indian cricket player Virat Kohli stole the show with his epic tribute to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Kohli, who turned 35 on the same day, marked his record 49th ODI century by declaring his love for Khan. As the popular song Chaleya from Khan’s hit movie Jawan played on the stadium speakers, Kohli couldn’t resist joining in and even imitated the actor’s iconic posture.
The tribute took place at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, where Kohli was fielding and Arijit Singh’s Chaleya began playing. He immediately started singing along, but when the live audience erupted into cheers, he spontaneously broke into Khan’s famous pose, with his arms spread wide, for a fleeting moment.
The news of Kohli’s tribute quickly spread on social media, with celebrities and fans alike expressing their excitement. Jawan director Atlee tweeted, OMG, followed by red heart emojis. Streaming platform Netflix India also joined in, captioning a still image from their recent commercial, which featured Khan announcing that Jawan would be making its OTT debut on his birthday. They wrote, King recognizes king, along with a sparkle emoji.
Meanwhile, Kohli’s wife, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, celebrated the moment as well. She tweeted, A gift for you, on my birthday, followed by a 100 emoji. Anushka made her Bollywood debut opposite Khan in the 2008 romantic film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, and they later worked together in films such as Zero (2018) and Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012).
Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film, Dunki, is set to release on Christmas, while Anushka is starring in Chakda Express, her next project. Fans are eagerly awaiting both films, and the crossover between Jawan and Virat Kohli has added to the excitement.
The cricket player’s tribute to Shah Rukh Khan not only showcased his love for the actor but also highlighted the bond between sports and entertainment. It brought immense joy to both Khan’s fans and cricket enthusiasts, cementing the fact that Virat Kohli’s talent truly knows no bounds.
