Viral Video Investigation: Afghan Refugee Boy Alleges Unpaid Labor at Sindh Police Camp

A video featuring an Afghan refugee boy sweeping in the Sohrab Goth SP’s office went viral on social media, leading to an investigation by the Sindh Police. The video, which was circulated on various social media platforms, shows a young boy sweeping near the Afghan refugee camp. Allegations arose suggesting that the police had instructed the boy to engage in unpaid labor.

In response to the viral video, the Sindh Police took immediate action and ordered an inquiry into the matter. The District East SSP and other officials conducted a thorough investigation, speaking to the child as well as the chairman of the Afghan refugee camp.

Following their inquiries, it was revealed that individuals from Illyas Goth had been relocated to the camp for document verification. Interviews were conducted with the people present, including the child. On Friday night, the Sindh Police released a statement addressing the case. In the statement, it was confirmed that the official video statement of the child, identified as Hassan, was available. Hassan explained that he was present with his parents for document verification when a woman asked him to sweep the courtyard and promised to pay him Rs100. The woman then made a video while the boy was sweeping. However, after completing the task, Hassan claimed he was not paid the promised amount.

Khan Mohammad, Hassan’s uncle, confirmed the incident and stated that he was present with his nephews when the woman instructed Hassan to sweep. He also affirmed that the promised payment of Rs100 was not made. Haji Abdullah, the chairman of the Afghan refugee camp, praised the positive attitude of the police and supported the boy’s claims. He confirmed that the woman had indeed asked the child to sweep in exchange for Rs100 but failed to fulfill her promise.

The Sindh Police’s prompt response and initiation of an investigation demonstrate their commitment to addressing the issue. By speaking with all the parties involved, they have ensured a fair and thorough inquiry into the matter. The allegations made by the young Afghan refugee boy have sparked public interest and concern.

It is essential that the investigation continues to determine the truth behind these accusations and take appropriate action against those responsible if any wrongdoing is discovered. The welfare and fair treatment of refugees, especially children, should be a priority for authorities and society as a whole.

As the investigation progresses, it is crucial for the voices of all parties involved to be heard, and justice must prevail. The Sindh Police’s dedication to resolving this issue promptly and transparently is commendable. Society must continue to advocate for the rights and well-being of Afghan refugees, ensuring that they are treated with dignity and respect.
