An audio clip of a former Congress minister and current Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Madhya Pradesh, Lakhan Singh Yadav, was widely circulated on social media recently. In the clip, the MLA could be heard allegedly threatening a contractor, Ankit Dhakad.
As per the audio clip, the contractor shared with the MLA that he was instructed by the collector to build a water tank in the constituency, which was reportedly part of the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ program. The MLA then said “Yeh zameen collector ke baap ki nahi hai (This land does not belong to the collector’s father.)” and ordered the contractor to immediately stop the construction work. He also asked the contractor to bring the collector to talk to him.
MLA Lakhan Singh Yadav represents the Bhitarwar constituency in the Gwalior district. Previously, he served as a minister in the Kamal Nath government.
The Jal Jeevan Mission is a government initiative in India that aims to deliver potable drinking water to all households by 2024 through the restoration of traditional water bodies and by tapping into reliable sources of water. It is launched by the Ministry of Jal Shakti as part of the larger ‘Har Ghar Jal’ scheme. The mission also intends to launch projects such as watershed development plans, gray water recycling, rooftop rainwater harvesting, installation of functional household taps and the replenishment of depleted ground water resources.
