Vietnamese President Enhances Strategic Partnership with Italy in Rome Visit

Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong recently embarked on a visit to Rome, Italy, aimed at enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries. During his visit, President Thuong held meetings with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies Lorenzo Fontana, and President of the Italian Senate Ignazio La Russa. These meetings focused on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation across various sectors.

Prime Minister Meloni expressed her satisfaction with the progress made in economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two nations. She also emphasized Italy’s respect for Vietnam’s stature and role in the Indo-Pacific region. President Thuong, on his part, affirmed Vietnam’s view of Italy as an important partner in Europe. He expressed Vietnam’s willingness to work closely with Italy in order to elevate the bilateral strategic partnership to new heights.

President Thuong’s meeting with President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies Lorenzo Fontana highlighted the mutual support and solidarity demonstrated by both nations during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. President Thuong also emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to the strategic partnership with Italy and the importance of close cooperation between their legislative bodies.

The visit by President Thuong holds significant importance as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Italy, as well as the 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership. These milestones signify the deepening and strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations.

In addition to the President’s visit to Italy, other notable events took place in Vietnam. A delegation comprising members from the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the State President, the Government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day. They also laid wreaths at the monument to war heroes and martyrs in Hanoi.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited sick soldiers and war invalids at the Nho Quan nursing center in Ninh Binh province. The center has been caring for approximately 150 people, including veterans, revolution contributors, and individuals facing special disadvantaged circumstances.

Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue hosted a reception for Maeda Tadashi, Special Advisor to the Cabinet of Japan and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation. They discussed ways to further promote the extensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt also held a ceremony to mark the 60th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Egypt, with Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang in attendance.

Vietnam’s role and contributions within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) were praised by Collins Chong Yew Keat, a policy and foreign affairs expert at the University of Malaya. Vietnam’s active participation and responsible contributions have garnered recognition and high evaluation from other member countries, especially in maintaining stability and peace in the region.

Finally, the first Workers’ Forum, organized in Hanoi, saw around 500 delegates representing workers and employees from across Vietnam. The forum, chaired by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, aimed to commemorate the 94th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam Trade Union and discuss matters concerning workers’ rights and welfare.

The above events underscore the efforts made by Vietnam to strengthen international partnerships and foster development in various sectors. Through high-level visits, tributes to war heroes and martyrs, and engagements with foreign counterparts, Vietnam continues to enhance its strategic partnerships and contribute to regional stability and prosperity.
