Vicky Kaushal Pays Tribute to Irrfan Khan as Sardar Udham Wins Big at National Film Awards
Shoojit Sircar’s biographical drama Sardar Udham emerged as a big winner at the 69th National Film Awards, bagging a total of five prestigious honors. The film, which revolves around the life of freedom fighter Udham Singh, took home awards in categories such as Best Hindi Film, Best Audiography – Re-recording Final Mixing, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design.
The cast and crew of Sardar Udham took to social media to express their joy and gratitude following the announcement. Banita Sandhu, who plays a significant role in the movie, shared several images from the film sets and stills from the movie, along with a heartfelt note expressing her gratitude for the team’s hard work.
Soon after the winners were announced, Vicky Kaushal, who portrays the titular role in the film, dedicated the movie’s success to the late actor Irrfan Khan, who was initially supposed to portray the lead character. Kaushal shared a poster of Sardar Udham featuring himself and expressed his deep appreciation for being a part of the film while paying tribute to Irrfan Khan.
Director Shoojit Sircar also dedicated the film’s victory at the National Film Awards to Irrfan Khan, sharing the same poster on his social media handle and captioning it as Dedicated to Irrfan Khan.
Sardar Udham, which premiered on Prime Video in 2021, narrates the story of Udham Singh, who seeks to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by assassinating the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab.
In addition to the success of Sardar Udham, other notable winners at the National Film Awards include R. Madhavan’s Rocketry: The Nambi Effect for Best Feature Film, joint winners Alia Bhatt for Gangubai and Kriti Sanon for Mimi in the Best Actress category, and Allu Arjun for Pushpa: The Rise as the Best Actor. Pankaj Tripathi also received the Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in Mimi.
