Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodríguez delivered a powerful speech at the ninth meeting of the Puebla Group in Mexico, where she exposed the hybrid war tactics being used against her country. In her address, Rodríguez discussed the impact of economic sanctions, blockades, and lawfare on Venezuela, highlighting the strategies employed by imperialist powers to weaken nations in the Global South.

One of the key issues she raised was the territorial dispute between Venezuela and Guyana over the Essequibo territory. Rodríguez warned that the US Southern Command has taken a keen interest in this geographic area, seeing it as a potential launchpad for attacks on Venezuela. She emphasized that the United States has covertly established economic interests in the region under the pretense of a historical border conflict between Venezuela and Guyana, thereby creating a platform for potential aggression against Venezuela. She stressed that any armed aggression against Venezuela would be an attack on Latin America and the Caribbean as a whole, calling for peace and adherence to international law.

Rodríguez expressed her regret at the region’s historical entanglement with hegemonic powers and stressed the importance of organizations like the Puebla Group in redefining sovereignty, independence, and establishing a fair economic order based on multilateralism. She urged countries in the region to reject any form of aggression and emphasized the need to address global challenges such as climate change, artificial intelligence, and warfare with a focus on peace and respect for international law.

Addressing the issue of de-dollarization, Rodríguez supported former Colombian President Ernesto Samper’s proposal, stating that relying less on the US dollar is a crucial step in protecting the human rights of nations. She commended the Puebla Group for its solidarity with Venezuela in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for rejecting the illegitimate blockade imposed on the country.

The Puebla Group, comprising leaders of the Latin American left, has announced its intention to present an international progressive agenda during the meeting. Topics on the agenda include migration, peace, inequality, and the ceasefire in Ukraine. The meeting was attended by various dignitaries, including Guatemala’s president-elect, Spain’s acting Minister of Equality, Mexico’s Foreign Minister, Venezuela’s Vice President, and Cuba’s Foreign Minister.

The Puebla Group is a multinational organization representing leaders in their personal capacity. With participation from 101 leaders across 21 countries, this platform offers a forum for discussions on important regional and global issues.

While the speech delivered by Vice President Rodríguez highlighted Venezuela’s perspective on the hybrid war being waged against it, the meeting also served as an opportunity for leaders to engage in constructive dialogue and seek avenues for progress, social justice, and regional integration.

Therefore, the meeting of the Puebla Group stands as a significant event where diverse voices unite to tackle pressing challenges and strive for a more equitable world order. As the deliberations continue, the international community will be keenly watching the outcomes and looking for signs of a renewed commitment to cooperation, peace, and respect for international norms.
