Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) Vice-Chancellor Prof Renu Jain threatened to resign after being instigated by Congress leaders who claimed that the Kamal Nath-led government would implement Section 52 in the university if needed. Jain’s resignation threat was provoked when the Congress delegation demanded the construction of foot over-bridges at the main entrances of UTD campus, IET, and School of Pharmacy.
Congress state secretary Tejprakash Rane argued that four-lane roads around the university campus would increase the probability of accidents, necessitating the construction of foot over-bridges to prioritize student safety. The VC was further questioned about five steps the university had taken to improve its standards. Jain became irritable when Rane made personal remarks and refused to engage with the delegation any further.
The situation was brought under control when other university officials present intervened. Led by senior Congress leader Vinay Bakliwal, the delegation had demanded the construction of foot over-bridges while claiming that if their candidate were to rule, they would get Jain removed from the VC position.
The university officials present at the VC office said that the Congress leaders deliberately instigated her. Observers opined that such politics could harm institutions and interfere with educational and other developmental projects.
