Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the Bahanaga area of Odisha, where a devastating rail accident took place on June 2 claiming 292 lives. During his visit, the minister announced an assistance of Rs 2 crore for the development of the area. While Rs 1 crore will be allocated from his MP fund, another Rs 1 crore will be released from the Railways’ fund to enhance healthcare facilities in the area. Vaishnaw praised the locals for their role in the rescue and relief operations after the accident. During his three-day visit to the state, the minister also inspected the Puri Railway Station and emphasized the importance of improving passenger amenities and facilities during the Rath Yatra period. The Chennai-bound Coromandel Express, Howrah-bound SMVP Superfast Express from Bengaluru, and a goods train were involved in the country’s one of the worst rail accidents near Bahanaga Bazar railway station on June 2.
