The Delhi Police recently arrested a 32-year-old vagabond for killing a 70-year-old man in the Subzi Mandi area of Delhi. The deceased was identified as Jyoti Prasad, a resident of Kabir Basti. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Sagar Singh Kalsi, a PCR call was received informing about Badal, the accused, beating up an elderly person in the Barafkhana area of Subzi Mandi at around 2:45 am on June 16.
A police team reached the spot and rushed Prasad to the Hindu Rao Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at 3:37 am. Badal, who lived on a footpath near Ghantaghar, was arrested from Roshanara Park on Friday. On interrogation, it was revealed that Badal had a quarrel with some boys near Ghantaghar, after which he went to Subzi Mandi, where other vagabonds were sleeping.
There, he found Prasad sitting and told him to leave the place, but the elderly man refused. This angered Badal, and he landed repeated blows on Prasad before fleeing the spot. The accused later returned to Subzi Mandi to check the victim’s condition, only to learn from another vagabond that Prasad had died.
The police had been searching for Badal following the incident. On the basis of specific inputs, he was arrested by the police. Badal has now been taken into judicial custody, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
The incident is a tragic reminder of the need to be cautious while dealing with strangers, particularly those who might be violent or engage in criminal activity. The police have urged citizens to be vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activities to the authorities. Such measures can go a long way in preventing future tragedies.
