A delegation of Uttarakhand Congress recently met with the state Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar regarding the communal tensions in Purola, Uttarkashi district. The delegation, led by state party president Karan Mahara, demanded strict action against the miscreants responsible for the unrest in Purola and other parts of the state. Congress disciplinary committee President Navprabhat was also present at the meeting with the DGP.
The Congress delegation expressed concern over the situation in Purola, where the district administration has imposed Section 144 after communal tensions erupted over an alleged attempted abduction of a minor girl last month. The district administration also refused permission for a mahapanchayat in Purola. The Supreme Court has also refused to entertain a plea against the proposed mahapanchayat, which is scheduled to be held on June 15 in the town.
The Congress Disciplinary Committee chairman, Navprabhat, stated that the party is against any criminal activity and supports the police in protecting the public. He emphasized that while section 144 has been implemented in Purola, the police administration must take action against the individuals responsible for creating the current situation.
DGP Ashok Kumar has assured the Congress delegation that no one will be allowed to disturb law and order in the state. The Uttarkashi town had previously witnessed tensions over an alleged attempted abduction of a 14-year-old girl, after which both suspects were apprehended by police authorities.
This incident has drawn the attention of the Uttarakhand Congress, who have taken a stand against the violent incidents that have occurred in the area. The party demanded swift action and reassured the public that it stands in solidarity with the police in safeguarding the people’s interests. The Congress delegation urged local authorities to tighten security measures to prevent further incidents of violence in the area.
