Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh urges for patience regarding Uniform Civil Code implementation

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced that a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will soon be implemented in the state. Dhami made this statement after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. He emphasized that the implementation of the UCC will be done with proper thought and that the committee examining the views of all stakeholders, including tribal leaders.

Dhami mentioned that everyone in the state has cooperated in this process, and the expert committee is currently reviewing the opinions of over 2.35 lakh individuals representing various sections of society. When asked about the timeline for implementing the UCC, Dhami replied, Let us assume it will be implemented very soon. Please wait for some time.

Prime Minister Modi has been pushing for a UCC in the country, stating that India cannot function with two separate laws. The UCC calls for the formulation of one law applicable to all religious communities concerning marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption.

Dhami also addressed the possibility of Uttarakhand’s UCC draft serving as a template for a central law. He emphasized the importance of carefully considering all aspects before arriving at any decisions.

Dhami’s meeting with Prime Minister Modi focused on the Prime Minister’s belief that the UCC should be implemented nationwide. Dhami stated that Modi understands all aspects of the UCC issue.

The Chief Minister believes that Uttarakhand will become a role model state for UCC implementation, with other parts of the country following suit.
