The Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has stated that no one will be allowed to take the law into their hands in regards to the recent Purola incident. In view of the announced mahapanchayat, strict security measures have been implemented in the Uttarkashi district, including the imposition of Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which prohibits assembling in groups of four or more individuals in a specified area. The market has been closed in Barkot and Naugaon, and security forces have been deployed everywhere. The proposed mahapanchayat, which has been witnessing communal tensions since last month’s alleged attempt to abduct a minor girl, was refused permission by the district administration. The Chief Minister has appealed to the public to maintain peace and avoid taking the law into their hands. If anyone tries to vitiate the atmosphere, legal action will be taken against them, he added.
